Product Description
For the Jordan 14 Retro Doernbecher (2019) (GS), Nike designers collaborated with Ethan Ellis. A cardiac patient at the Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Ellis designed this sneaker for grade-schoolers as a tribute to his favorite team and those who've helped him on his challenging healthcare journey.
The Doernbecher 2019 Jordan 14 Retro features an upper with a base of black nubuck. Patterned iridescent purple overlays on the side panels and heel pay homage to Ellis’s beloved Texas Christian Horned Frogs. The 6 on one heel represents his number of heart surgeries, while the Space Needle on the other heel honors Seattle, where he received his heart transplant. The tongue sports "Lil Rey," a fellow cardiac patient and friend. The EE on the collar replaces Jordan branding. On the laces, you can see the names of all the hospitals where he's received care.
One of the many aspects we love about this awe-inspiring shoe is the way the outsole ties it all back to Ethan Ellis's cherished Air Jordans. The purple rubber outsole features the number 14 and the iconic Jumpman logo. The Jordan 14 Retro Doernbecher (2019) (GS) was released on December 7, 2019, for $140 retail.
