On the New Balance 57/40 on StockX, you will find the throwback sneaker design in which New Balance decided to combine a favorite silhouette from the ‘80s with sneaker technology from the ‘90s.
The New Balance 57/40 is an update of the classic New Balance 574, a sneaker that combines road and trail design without emphasis on visible shoe technology. Compared to the 574, the 57/40 has a sleeker look combined with an exaggerated midsole flare with wavy embellishments on the mudguard and eyestays.
The New Balance 57/40 has an upper constructed of a mesh base with premium suede overlays across the eyestays, collar, and mudguard. A high-grade leather hit appears on the lower portion of the heel. Reflective touches accent the upper and branding covers the side panel in the form of an oversized stitched-on “N.” Underneath the stacked ‘80s-esque midsole, the outsole sports an updated tread pattern.
The New Balance 57/40 is available in a number of different colorways, some subtle and tonal, and some popping with vibrant, contrasting colors. The Nimbus Cloud Sea Salt White, Sea Salt Calm Taupe, Green Moonbeam Sea Salt, Valentine's Day, Team Navy Black, Black, and White Gum are examples of colorways that feature one overall color throughout the upper of the shoe. The Gray Blue Silver Purple, Deep Blue Multi, Black Multicolor, Sage Bleached Lime Glow, Varsity Green Team Gold, and Team Royal Orange are some colorways that feature a bold color palette with contrasting hues.
