About the Artist
Fin DAC, a self-taught, non-conformist artist from the UK, is best known for his portrait exploration of emancipated and empowered female subjects. His artwork defined and perfected an atypical paint style he dubbed ‘urban aesthetics’. His work challenges the viewer to deviate from common sexualised views and colonialist attitudes surrounding the artistic depiction of women.
In their public settings, Fin DAC’s murals claim ownership over their urban environment yet remain equally delicate and sympathetic to their surroundings.

The Nabigwa was first painted as a mural atop a roof terrace in Portland, with access restricted to tenants of the building itself, so I made it much more of an installation and an adaptation of the space rather than simply a painting on a wall.
In the original mural the hair was adapted from external air conditioning ducts and piping and the butterflies were floated on hidden springs so they fluttered in the wind. The female figure also held an open cage, physically attached to the wall, out of which certain butterflies seemed to be escaping.
This print artwork was first painted at his solo show in late 2021 as one of four large pieces that recreated murals of his, from around the world, that contained either plants or butterflies.
