Los Angeles-based American artist Kendrick Lamar began his career in high school when he founded the hip-hop group Black Hippy. After releasing his debut album, Section.80, in 2011, Lamar received a joint offer from Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records. His follow-up record, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, spawned three top 40 singles and holds the distinction of occupying the longest chart duration for a hip-hop album on the Billboard 200.
With his third album release, To Pimp a Butterfly, Kendrick Lamar initiated the phenomenon of releasing four consecutive number-one albums in the U.S., and To Pimp a Butterfly is considered one of the best albums of the 20-teens. With this upward trajectory, numerous special edition releases of Lamar's albums were created. For the tenth anniversary of Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City, two exclusive coloured vinyl versions were created exclusively for retailer Target, including an Opaque Apple Red version, as well as a clear vinyl version. Quickly flying off the shelves at Target, these special releases have now become highly covetable.
Beyond being a songwriter and having success creating albums, Kendrick Lamar is known for his skills as a live performer. His tours, the Damn Tour and the Big Steppers Tour, are noted as among the highest-grossing rap tours ever completed. With his artistry propelling him into the cultural stratosphere, Kendrick Lamar has aimed his talents at other projects, such as film and fashion. Lamar has teamed up with Nike to collaborate on various sneaker designs, creating multiple iterations of the vintage-like Cortez and also lending his talents to the performance-driven React Element 55.
