If ever there was a boy band that captured a generation of young Americans, it has to be *NSYNC. This success was hard-earned, though. Founder member Chris Kirkpatrick missed out on auditioning for the Backstreet Boys, but he managed to land a recording deal on condition that he could form a similar vocal group. Rather than quickly gathering a bunch of decent talent, he spent a year looking for exactly the right personnel, starting with a certain Justin Timberlake. Interestingly, for a US group, *NSYNC relocated to Sweden and first entered the European market, especially in Germany. It was only about a year after their debut release that they cracked it at home. Their debut single here was "I Want You Back," which instantly rocketed them to fame.
Thanks to movie soundtracks and merchandising tie-ins, diamond-certified sales, Grammy nominations, and a Super Bowl performance, *NSYNC albums are highly prized. Their blend of harmonized pop, R&B, and new jack swing brought them legends of devoted fans. Young pop lovers who grew up with the band's music still have a nostalgic affection for them. The fact that the band didn't have a very long career has increased demand for their recordings. *NSYNC only released four albums from 1997 to 2001.
