The upper construction is much the same as the original New Balance 2002R; however, it includes an inner membrane made of Gore-Tex. Although this material is water-resistant, it also protects against wind and other winter conditions. The base is made of lightweight mesh with layers of suede overlays in various shades of gray, ranging from Harbor Gray to Slate Gray. The tooling matches the original 2002R and includes impact-absorbing ABZORB cushioning and stabilizing ABZORB SBS heel cushioning. The sneaker displays a combination of New Balance and Gore-Tex branding on the upper and sole unit.
